“A skinwalker. I do not believe I have encountered such before but I am aware of what they are. Such a strange gift to bestow upon one when there are so many other things that may be offered,” Loki said.

image

“Well, I like it. It’s a way of protecting myself. Besides, I wouldn’t know what else to ask for.”

image

“Well, so much could be afforded. Faster healing, inhuman strength, the ability to run inhumanly fast, changing one’s appearance to mimic another’s, so many things,” Loki said. “Then again, much typically requires the consumption of a potion or two to be accomplished and some potions could take months to create.”

image

“Yes, I suppose those would come in handy, but I can’t just ask for such abilities, I have to earn them. And as you said, potions don’t just pop up out of nowhere. I would certainly have to wait a while.”

image

“Well then, find some way to earn it if you wish for it. Chances are you could be working to earn such feats while they are being made available.” Loki shrugged a little. He couldn’t recall a time he’d given a mortal some ability, there was never a need to. But he could recall times where it was considered. He speculated this alternate self of his was far different.

image

Hes cocked her head to one side. “Is that so? And what would you suggest I do to earn what I want?”

“You make a deal with one who is capable of giving such things. Know what they want and if it is something you can provide, a deal would not be too difficult,” he said. “This twin likely gave you your current ability for a reason. Learn what that reason was. I do suspect ‘tis for he finds value in your existence.”

It’s quiet today. Perhaps, I should hunt a human. That always livens things up…

Or mayhaps things can be livened up if you were to become the hunted, yes?

image

…Yeah, no, that wouldn’t be as much fun.

image

Speak only for yourself.

I will just take your word for it, but now I’m curious. What illness is it, exactly?

image

I have not the slightest idea. I have scanned various medical books of Midgard and have not been able to find which disease it appears to be. I believe it is not Midgardian in origin. Essentially the skin turns pale yellow then the pores open to cause one to bleed out. I would recommend a hazmat suit to be worn in the mun’s general vicinity.

image

That bad, is it? How interesting. Well, I shall have to keep this all in mind, then. Thank you, Dalie, for the warning. Oh, and before I forget to ask, are you enjoying the musical card I sent you?

image

“I nearly forgot to add…” Dalie started. He then lifted his right hand and pulled the leather glove off then pulled his sleeve up to reveal the blackened mess that became his right arm. “If left unattended for too long, the ailment results in this… Something even one such as myself is unable to cure with a simple healing spell. You would think a ‘muse,’ as they call ones such as us, would be immune to his own mun’s issues. Such is wrongful thinking. The mun only acts kind, using kindness as a lure to cause suffering.” After a few seconds, he added, “The card is amusing, only slightly so. Not my particular taste in music, however.”

image

“That looks rather nasty,” he said, examining the other’s arm for a few moments, before lifting his head. “No cure? This is troubling news. ‘Tis rare of me to come across an illness completely alien to me. I shall have to look into it, and be sure to keep my distance from the mun…” He nodded. “Mm, yes, well it’s the only one I could find that didn’t play music suited for a child.”

image

Dalie stepped closer to the not-so-twin, and lifted his right arm just inches below eye level in front of him, “Seems to particularly affect Jotuns. This hand is even colder than the rest of me… unless room temperature is hot. Would you like to see what it feels like? I cannot feel anything on this hand.”

image

“Well, this is all very interesting,” said he, taking a few steps back, but in such a way that he wouldn’t appear rude or uneasy in front of the other. And obviously wanting to avoid his question went on to say, “Tell me, not-so-twin, have you considered severing the affected part of your body then regrowing it?”

image

“I have considered such. Unfortunately since it is my right arm, I am unable to do so. I am not so much skilled with my left, you see.” He lazily waved his left hand as if to illustrate its uselessness. Care to help a not-so-twin out, mayhaps? I might even let you keep it as a souvenir.”

I think you’ll find that’s how it is with me almost all the time when it comes to mortals.

image

You should probably distance yourself from mine mun. She has some kind of contagious disease that catches one in their sleep.

image

Is that so?

image

If you doubt it, you may go forth and find out on your own.

“This one has had better days. Health is depleting at a slow crawl,” he says matter-of-fact like, then pulls his deadening arm behind his back then gives a small shrug.
